Ms. Golda Mae Bailey, 90, of Lillington, NC, passed way on Friday, July 26, 2019, at Old Knox Commons Nursing Home, Huntsville, NC.
Family will receive friends, Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the home, located at 981 Shawtown Rd, Lillington, NC 27546.
Ms. Bailey was a dedicated member of the Lillington First Presbyterian Church where she has served as Sunday School Teacher, Church Treasurer, Session Clerk, Choir Member and Elder. She loved her church was its backbone for decades.
Mrs. Bailey has been recognized for her many valuable contributions to society. In addition to being honored as the NAACP Mother of the Year on three occasions, in 2000 she received the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service from Governor Jim Hunt. In 2003, she was recognized as a National Service Participant by Governor Michael Easley. In 2008, she received the Lifetime Extension Volunteer Award from the North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension. These are only a few of the many awards and honors that have been bestowed upon Mrs. Bailey.
Ms.Bailey is preceded in death by her parents, Lula and April Lewis, husband, Brutus C. Bailey; son, Brutus, Jr., seven sisters and four brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia B. Cooper and Eric C. Bailey (Eddie), both of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Aaron McLean, Erika Cooper Shaw, Eric Lansing Bailey and Chelsea Bailey; four great-grandchildren, Ferris Lindsey, Camryn Richardson and Dylan and Braylon Richardson; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Ms. Bailey’s life will be held at Cape Fear Conference “A” Headquarters, 25 Beaver Rd, Erwin, NC, on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at 2:00 PM, followed immediately by visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Interment will take place immediately following the service in Lillington First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lillington, NC
