Mother Hattie "Walker" Maynor Hunter, 91, of Flint, MI, formerly Harnett County, NC.
With unwavering honor, we announce the homegoing of Mother Hattie Hunter, a loving, devoted grandmother and beloved friend to all whose lives she touched. She left us while sleeping peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. She was 91 years of age. Born on November 16, 1932, in Lillington, North Carolina. Mother Hunter was the youngest child of Robert Maynor and Mary “Walker” Maynor.
She began her education at a private school founded by her family/descendants in North Carolina and continued her education after moving to Flint, Michigan. She had a passion for caring for others, so she obtained a nursing degree. She later solidified her career at General Motors (Fisher Body Plant) retiring in 1988. After retiring from General Motors, she labored more than 15 years working for Right-at-Home Agency providing care for elders and others needing care in Genesee County.
Mother Hunter leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories. She is survived by her grandchildren; Kimberly, Twana, James “Eric”, Bennie, Bryon and their families. As well as a host of family and friends near and far, including her First Union Baptist Church family, Grace Tabernacle MBC family, family in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and places she has visited around the world. She understood the importance of well-being through the benefits of social interaction and building community, and all that knew her knew that she was most definitely a social butterfly.
Mother Hunter was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Maynor; husband, Mr. Leo Hunter of 56 years; daughter, Mary Lee McCombs; sister, Margie Banks; and granddaughter, Donna Marie Walker.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (family will be present from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) Legacy Funeral Chapel, 1009 E Stewart Ave. Flint, MI 48505.
Family Hour will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.,Celebration of Life, will follow the Family Hour beginning at 11:00 a.m. First Union Baptist Church of Flint, 7004 Fleming Rd, Flint, MI 48504.
Interment will follow immediate after the service in SunSet Hills Cemetery, G- 4413 Flushing Rd, Flint, MI 48504.
