James ' Bunkey" Fredrick Covington

Mr. James ‘ Bunkey” Covington, 71, of  4307 Bunnlevel Erwin Rd, Erwin, NC, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital, Fayetteville, NC.

Extended family and friends are being received at the home (between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.) after that time they will be received at the home of his daughter, Precious (Vet) Covington, located at: 677 Byrds Pond Rd, Erwin, NC.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years Peggy L. Covington, his mother; Minnie C. Smith and a loving father to Kittrane Sanders of Bunnlevel, NC,  Daphne Covington of Dunn, NC, Precious Covington and Barbara Coleman both of Erwin, NC, and Tyrone Walker (Lindsey) of Charolotte, NC; four sisters, Evelyn Taylor (Wayne) of Baltimore, MD, Kathy Smith (Michael) of Erwin, NC, Bertina Walker of Linden, NC, Cookie Smith, of NC and Jennelle Hill; two brothers, Heywood Smith (Wilma) of Erwin, NC, William Smith of Washington, DC; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (family will be present at 4:00 pm), Walker Funeral Home and Cremation Chapel, 163 Irene Roberts Rd, Lillington, NC.

Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., Cape Fear Conference “ A” Headquarters, 25 Beaver Rd, Erwin, NC., following the guidelines of the conference for entrance.

Interment will take place immediately after the Service in Davis Chapel AMEZ Church Cemetery, 120 Horseshoe Bend Rd, Erwin, NC.
